St. Louis adopts plan to track energy use in commercial buildings / by Mallory Brentlinger

The St. Louis City Board of Alderman approved a bill requiring municipal, institutional, commercial, and multifamily buildings over 50,000 square feet to track and report their energy and water usage annually using ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager.

Energy benchmarking & transparency policies harness market forces to save energy and drive investment in buildings.  With the passage of this bill, St. Louis joins cities already implementing similar policies: Kansas City, Minneapolis, Pittsburgh, Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, Seattle, and Washington D.C., among others.
